Spokane Whitewater Park Update (7-15-05)

Dear Supporters,

It has been a while since you have received an update on the progress towards the whitewater park which you have supported. Here are a few highlights that have occurred since the last update.

Fundraising:
Total amount received to date:$24,201.00 in individual and business/club donations. There is $8,450 in pledges. Friends of the Falls is working with a number of business interests in securing more donations and is confident that the goal of $45,000 plus will be reached.

Request for Qualifications:
John Patrouch, Steve Faust, and Jeff Warner have worked hard to write and send out the request for qualifications (RFQ's). Those were sent out last week to 15 engineering and whitewater design teams. Responses to those are expected by July 20, 2005. There have been two recent site visits by companies interested in working on this project. They both had some good ideas for our whitewater facility. We look forward to seeing theirs and others' qualification submissions. A selection committee will then review those RFQ's to choose which company will be doing the engineering, designing and permitting.

An aggressive timeline has been formulated with the goal of having the whitewater facility designed, permitted, and construction completed in time for the fall release of 2006. That is the goal and if all goes well, should be able to be realized.

On behalf of the Spokane Whitewater Park Steering Committee and Friends of the Falls, I wish to thank each and every one of you for your continued support.
Yours,

Michael "Mick" French

What Other Cities Have Done With Whitewater Parks

Casper, Wyoming

The entrance to Casper's park.

Moments from the parking lot is a "surfer's paradise."

Denver, Colorado

Confluence Park in downtown Denver is located where
the North Platte River and Cherry Creek converge.

Confluence Park offers about 100 yards to play boating in an easy to access area moments from downtown.

Golden, Colorado

Golden's park is located along Clear Creek.

The whitewater park in Golden attracts kayakers...

...but it also atracts other casual river users like this wake boarder...

...and these tubers.

From Mild to Wild...the NWA has a place for your whitewater boating interests!
